The fiction focuses on the character of Julia, who after her divorce must not only take care of her three children, but of a series of ruinous businesses that her ex leaves her with the intention of failing and returning to her side begging. But nothing could be further from the truth, since, with the help of Alma, her best friend, this courageous mother will try to put her life in order, while acquiring a security and freedom unknown until then.
The origin of the project lies in a long-standing desire of Antena 3 to recover the daily strips. In the words of the head of national fiction of the channel at that time, Teddy Villalba, the tabletime series «have been a pending subject since the conclusion of Nada es para Siempre in 1999 (…) The project offered by José Luis Moreno seemed to us very funny and entertaining». So, after replacing Boda Real in the afternoons, La Sopa Boba began to compete with Aquí hay Tomate, Telecinco’s pink show.
Despite what it may seem, La Sopa Boba is not a telenovela. It is true that the nature of the series has the classic tangles of the genre but, as the team assured: «We are not a soap opera because it does not have the dramatic elements that characterize telenovelas (…) It is more of a situation comedy with a few crazy characters, but always within the truth and credibility». In any case, its followers must have been satisfied, since the fiction achieved an average of 2 million viewers during its broadcasting in 2004.

The initial plot of the series is based on the fact that Julia, after her divorce, is left in charge of her three children and her ex-husband’s transfer of a dilapidated hostel, a mini-market and a ramshackle workshop. Her ex’s real intention is for Julia to fail miserably and return to him defeated.

The cast is completed by Mabel Lozano, who plays Patricia, an admired and attractive lawyer who runs the business of Julia’s ex-husband. Secretly in love with her client, she will try to make life impossible for her former partner. Juan Fernandez plays Pedro, Julia’s ex-husband is what is socially understood as an achiever. He is a strict, conservative, uneducated guy who always likes to get his own way. That is why he sells the story that he is the one who has separated from Julia. However, he is going to fight in his own way to get her back with him… The new series, which has 20 scriptwriters, will be broadcast from Monday to Friday at a quarter to four in the afternoon.
