Es una canción de reggaetón y pop latino compuesta en tiempo común con una letra sobre el deseo de una relación sexual, interpretada de forma suave y romántica. «Despacito» recibió en general críticas favorables de los críticos musicales, que elogiaron la fusión entre los ritmos latinos y urbanos, su pegajosidad y su pintura de texto. The video, directed by Carlos Pérez, the creative director of Elastic People, was filmed in December 2016 in Puerto Rico. It features Daddy Yankee and actress, model and Miss Universe 2006 Zuleyka Rivera.[3] It was shared via YouTube on January 12, 2017. Within 97 days of its release it surpassed one billion views. To date it has been the first video to reach that number the fastest. On June 16, 2017, the video reached 2 billion views on the YouTube platform after 154 days.[4] On August 4, 2017, the video clip reached 3 billion views after its release, making it the most viewed video on YouTube at the time.
In November 2020, the music video reached 7 billion views, making it one of only two videos to reach this number throughout YouTube’s history, along with Pinkfong’s nursery rhyme «Baby Shark».
On April 16, 2017, on Luis Fonsi’s official YouTube channel, a video was published with the audio of the remix with the collaboration of singer Justin Bieber. He performed it live on April 18, 2017. It now has 660,102,481 views
