El periódico publicó su primer número el 17 de enero de 1939,[1] en plena Guerra Civil, poco después de que Tarragona fuera ocupada por los franquistas[2] Su primer director fue Luis Climent, que ocupó el cargo desde 1939 hasta 1942[3].
Durante la Dictadura, el periódico formó parte de la Cadena de Prensa del Movimiento[4][5] Tras la muerte de Franco, se integraron en el ente público Medios de Comunicación Social del Estado (MCSE). En 1984, fueron subastados por el Estado y vendidos[6][7] Tras ello, cambiaron su nombre por el de Diari de Tarragona[5].

A finales de agosto del 2020 me gustaría acompañar al lector del Tiempo de las Artes en un viaje por algunos de los museos y monumentos más desconocidos de nuestra casa. Espacios que se completan con aquella típica frase «si fuesen pocos kilómetros y cua para anar-ho a veure».
El Poble Vell de Corbera d’Ebre, el Museu de les Terres de l’Ebre, el castell-monestir d’Escornalbou y el Museu Déu només son algunas de las propuestas que ofrece el Sur de Catalunya. La Tarragona Romana, el Reus Modernista, las rutes de la Terra dels Genis, la Ruta del Cister o cualquier otra feta a mida es una buena forma de descubrir todo el patrimonio que amaga esta zona de Catalunya.
